Coach - Russell Smith
Russell's first triathlon was way back in 1986 and wetsuits, aerobars, carbon bikes as well as triathlon gear were things of the future. Triathlon has come a long way since that first endurance outing so when it comes to knowing a thing or two about endurance sport, over 30 years of participation has provide Russell with a huge amount of knowledge that he is keen to pass on.
Russell still competes today and over the years has competed with distinction in duathlons, marathons, multisport events, adventure races, Ironman’s and cycle races, having won multiple age group awards in NZ Ironman as well as triathlons and half marathons. He has competed twice in the Ironman World Champs in Hawaii and won his age group in the standard distance triathlon World Champs back in 2012.
Russell is also an accredited Swim Smooth coach and has been coaching the Swim Smooth Hamilton squad since September 2015. Swim Smooth is the world's leading authority in adult swim coaching! The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has garnered Swim Smooth's services to re-write their entire swim coaching program for swimmers and triathletes in 119 countries all around the world. The Swim Smooth program was devised and conceived in Perth, Western Australia by Head Coach Paul Newsome in 2004 and who still coaches the majority of his squad's programs on a daily basis.
